2021 Summer Camp

STEMKid Maker Club is preparing to operate in-person and virtual camps this summer. We have every reason to believe through our discussions with the Ontario Camps Association and their relationships within the Government of Ontario that summer day camps will proceed. In preparation for in-person camps, STEMKid Maker Club has prepared its Return to Camp Guideline document which will be continuously updated as new health and safety regulations are announced. We have also introduced our No Risk Refund Policy to ensure families receive a full refund in the unlikely event that Summer Camp has to be cancelled. The health and safety of your children in our care will always be our primary concern.

Young Observers

(JK – G2: In-person and Virtual)

Week One ( July 5 - 9): Animal Friends - Discover the animals around you. Recognize the sounds of animals and understand the habits of small animals.
Week Two ( July 12 - 16): Human Body - Understand the human body systems and muscles, listen to the human heartbeat and the other sounds form our body.
Week Three ( July 19 - 23): Commons Senses - Make discoveries in sight, sound, hearing, touch and smell.
Week Four ( July 26 - 30): Changing Seasons - Learn about weather science, aerodynamics, natural circulation, seasons, days, years and months.
Week Five ( August 3 - 6): Happy Holidays (4 days) - Learn about festivals and holidays around the world and celebrate a better life together.
Week Six ( August 9 - 13): Weather Wonders - Study the water cycle, weather patterns and how rainbows form.
Week Seven ( August 16 - 20): Mysterious Oceans - Learn about the eight oceans of the earth and the marine life.
Week Eight ( August 23 - 27): Recycle and Our World - Understand our living environment, advocate environmental protection, and save our planet.

Zoom links will be sent out along with additional information after you are registered.

The Little Engineer Star

(JK – G3: In-person and Virtual)

Are you curious to know what really goes on inside your iPod, cellphone, tablet or games? Electronic devices are used everywhere,

and after this program you will have a great understanding how electronics work. Learn electronics the fun and easy way through straightforward lessons,

and useful projects. Our young scientists will be wowed by amazing activities and quality projects, exploring projects ranging from copper tape circuits,

wiggling bot, Motor boats and many more. You will also learn many interesting concepts of Electronics, Engineering and Science.

Junior Robotics: Meet Our Robots!

(In-person only)

Summer Camp robotics activities at STEMKid Maker Club provide an accessible, fun, and engaging avenue for campers

to explore their curiosity and wonder about the wonderful world of STEM! With the use of robots such as Ozobots, YLW Robots, and FIRST Robots,

campers will engage in immersive and interesting hands-on activities that provide opportunities to learn the STEM skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow.

Ozobots (JK – G3): The Ozobot bit is a small robot equipped with color sensors that can read and understand colors as code.

The Ozobot follows any black line drawn on a white background, and then makes decisions about directions to turn and ways to behave by following a sequenced color code!

YLW Robots (G2 – G6): YLW Robot is a robot that can be programmed by reading barcodes or by code written and created using online software

such as Scratch, Mblocks, or YLWCoding. The YLW Robot has many programmable features, including its movement, LED lights, sensors, and sounds!

FIRST® Robots (G4 – G7):The FIRST Robot is the rehearsal of FIRST LEGO League Competition. Each session has three parts: the Robot Game,

the Innovation Project, and the FIRST Core Values. Campers will explore real-world scientific challenges and introduce coding and robot building principles

using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® or SPIKESM Prime, apply their STEM skills combined with critical thinking to work with a team, build a robot and compete

in an exciting and mission-based Robot Game.

Scratch Programming

(G1 – G6 In-person and Virtual)

Scratch is a block-based visual programming language and website targeted primarily at children. Users of the site can create

online projects using a block-like interface. The children will mix together different media (including graphics, sound, and other programs)

in creative ways by creating and remixing projects, like video games and animations.

*Children who register for the Virtual Camp need access to Zoom on a computer.
Zoom links will be sent out along with additional information after you are registered.
*In addition, a software link will be sent to download prior to class.

Arduino Programming

(G3 – G8 In-person and Virtual)

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for anyone making interactive projects.

Arduino Boards have been used to control the valves and motors within the latest designs for mechanical ventilators as teams around the world

rushed to produce additional volumes of this critical medical device. The program will introduce you how to use mBlock, and how to program Robots / Arduino Boards with mBlock.

No need to buy equipment, we can let you borrow our Arduino kit for the program. All you need is a computer, internet, and a hunger to learn.

*Children who register for the Virtual Camp need access to Zoom on a computer.
Zoom links will be sent out along with additional information after you are registered. In addition, a software link will be sent to download prior to the class.
*Material kit will be dropped off at the door one week prior to class.
*$50 kit deposit will be refunded upon the return of the kit in its original condition by the next week of class. Refund will be provided via e-transfer or check.

Python Programming

(G3 – G8 In-person and Virtual)

Some kids might feel like they just don’t have what it takes to learn Python. The strange combinations of words and punctuation can

seem impossible to decipher. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but learning the basics of Python isn’t nearly as difficult as it may appear.

You and your peers will be able to understand difficult concepts of python through fun projects and lessons with the help of our instructors.
